I wrote this poem as an introduction to our third River Bottom Ranch Stories - a series of chapter books for mid-grade readers. My husband of 40+ years and I write all our books together. We used to say he's teh story and I'm the style, but over the years of writing together, he's developed quite an awesome style and I often am responsible for moving the storyline along : ) We both so appreciated a comment from a respected colleague at the DFW Writers' Workshop. He told us, "I used to be able to hear when each of you was writing, but now y'all blend so well, I can never tell."

                                             Yea! A New Book!

Come dear little children, come one and all!

Come every blessing, come short and come tall!

Get comfortable now, ‘cause you’re about to enjoy

Grami and O’Pa’s new River Bottom Ranch Story!

Young Sarge will be in it, and old Uncle Dan, too,

Plus you’ll meet some characters definitely new!

Amazing Graci, you’ve met. Can you remember?

She helped find Sarge - in book two that September.

In this third ranch story, Graci’s first book,

We’ll take you back and give you a good look

At when she arrived with a big job to handle -

Guarding the goats from any harm and all vandals.

Remember that pack of bad dogs in book one?

Well, they’re back, and their shenanigans aren’t done.

That half-coyote leader - ‘member? His name is Gunner -

Has a craving for goat meat, andthat’s a real bummer!

So cuddle up now into your favorite spot,

Get ready to read this new book that you got.

Then tell all your friends and your neighbors, too,

To read it so they can meet sweet Mama Lu

And all the rest of the River Bottom goats,

You won’t need a pencil. There’s no need for notes.

You’ll just need your eyes and some good bright light

Read ‘til you’re sleepy then put it down for the night,

And dream a good dream, one of virtue and might.

Maybe one day, you’ll have a story to write!

What a great marketer you are! It's not enough to write a book--you have to get creative to sell it. Thanks for sharing this.
