The cat and the parakeet
Met in a tree
Defying their parents
Wishes you see

Forbidden to be
Together they were
A ridiculous sight
And caused quite a stir

It wasn't their species
That made the pair wrong
It was simply that birds and cats
Don't get along

Their parents tried warning
And spoke from the heart
But the kids would hear nothing
That kept them apart

Don't blame the birds
They aren't prejudiced here
But still, from the cats
They have something to fear

And don't hate the cats
For they aren't to blame
They raised their son well
But still, all the same

The cat wouldn't listen
To anything said
They feared he was crazy
Real sick in the head

For what cat would want
His lunch for a spouse,
And what bird would want
A cat in the house

So holidays came
And holidays went
The parents had parties
Invitations were sent

But the cat and the parakeet
Spent them alone
In a tree by a lake
In a place they called home

Still, it wasn't all love
For the cat and the bird
They fought and they argued
But the last that I heard

They still stuck by each other
Alone in that tree
Till one day they started
Their own family

They adopted a puppy
Who climbed up to their nest
And was crazy for them
But the thing they liked best

Was telling their parents
About their new bundle of fur
That was crazy as them
And didn't care what they were

The Cat and the Parakeet (kids version)

The cat and the parakeet
Met in a tree
Defying traditional
Pairings, you see

Their friends laughed and laughed
For together they were
A ridiculous sight
And caused quite a stir

It wasn't their species
That made the pair wrong
It was simply that birds and cats
Don't get along

Their parents tried warning
And spoke from the heart
But the kids would hear nothing
That kept them apart

Now don't blame the birds
They aren't prejudiced here
But still, from the cats
They have something to fear

And don't hate the cats
For they aren't to blame
They raised their son well
But still, all the same

The cat wouldn't listen
To anything said
They feared he was crazy

Kids Book!!! Would need a few tweaks to be suitable for children as the audience--for one, parents won't want to read about children doing something they forbid.....but would be a fun picture book for kids. Will have to check the page count layout too.

Hmmm, I'd never really considered that before, I wrote it more out of frustration over my rebellious twenty year old grand child.I'll have to play with that...

I really like this one, lovely message! Reminds me of the opening theme song to "Cat-Dog" from when I was a kid. "One fine day with a woof and a purr, a baby was born and it cause a little stir"
