About Us

It was a dark and stormy night. Suddenly, …
Trite perhaps, but an opener that generates instant engagement, even among reluctant writers. We easily jump to the next step, typically an unexpected sound. I’ve used this hook many times in writing classes to initiate a continuous story activity, explained as a style and tone exercise.

The ensuing tales are usually fun, frequently creative and interesting. This continuing story activity provides the basis for TaleBait.com. The fishing motif arises from word play about an opener, or hook.

I hope we form a community of readers and writers who collaborate and have fun creating quality fiction. In fact, I hope we generate some solid fare in addition to the anticipated fluff.

For writers who want to improve skills, take note of the ratings you receive on Hooks & Storylines. Take advantage of critiques and comments on Open Water and discussions on the Captain’s Blog. For professional writers, expand your audience. Readers can discover you on Hooks & Storylines and learn more about you on your Angler profile.
Writing has been the foundation of my livelihood for many years. As anyone who writes for compensation can tell you, writing as work can wring the life out of you. Let’s put PLAY before WORK in the writing that we share on TaleBait.com.

Get hooked. Write away.
